Life In The Raw

How come the Tree of Life Raw Food place in Patagonia AZ is so expensive?
Has anybody been there and have any pros and cons of their stay? Seems like this is for the elite only with lots of money to spend.
Gabriel Cousens promotes a high fat raw Vegan Diet full of nuts, oils, avos, seeds, and virtually no fruits and few greens. I highly recommend you read 80/10/10 by Dr. Douglas Graham and Green for Life by Victoria Boutenko. Stay away from Cousens, Phyo, Cohen, and the high fat Raw Diet in general. The natural hygiene method of raw is far healthier.

Skid Row $4.12 Skid Row distinguished themselves from the legions of pop-metal bands of the late ’80s and early ’90s chiefly by their attitude, which was closer to Guns N’ Roses than to Bon Jovi. They’re also distinctive these days, mainly because they’re still around. Though their debut is the most radio-friendly and least musically mature of their albums, it does have some excellent songs on it, including the … |

… on 29th Street $16.83 A story of life and growing-up in the inner city during a more innocent time. Sometimes hilarious, sometimes sad, sometimes serious, sometimes as carefree and footloose as youth itself. During a time when the so-called generation gap was a wide as the ocean, these young boys journey through their young lives with hope, honesty, and dreams of being the best they can, no matter what the challenge and regardless of what it takes. The street was raw and kind, tough and educating to say the least. The times were much more innocent than today but the children were the same as they’ve always been. From tough language learned from the streets, to true values learned from their parents, friends and neighbors, growing-up in the city was an experience that left memories, values and standards unequaled by anything else experienced since those warm summer days on 29th Street. |

180 South (Blu-ray) $22.98 This gorgeous, historic, and inspiring new film from director & surfer Chris Malloy and his collective at Woodshed Films, documents the adventures of surfer and climber Jeff Johnson as he retraces the epic 1968 journey of his heroes Yvon Chouinard (rock climbing legend and founder of Ventura-based Patagonia) and Doug Tompkins, on which they drove, mountain climbed and surfed their way to Chilean Patagonia. Along the way, Jeff encounters big surf, snowy mountains, a dangerous ocean crossing, pulp mills, cowboys, dams and more on his way to climb Cerro Corcovado in Patagonia. Jeff’s life takes a turn when he meets up in a rainy hut with Chouinard and Tompkins who, once driven purely by a love of climbing and surfing, now value above all the experience of raw nature and have come to Patagonia to help use their influence to help protect it. The film is a road trip movie, a historic document, and an environmental call to arms, but mostly a meditation on what matters most in life ?staying true to one’s own vision and values. |

Excerpt: Career (United States): Polly was an American brig that was swamped during a gale in late 1811, and spent the next six months adrift in the Atlantic Ocean . The saga of Polly was mentioned by Edgar Allan Poe in his novel The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket . History Polly was a 131-ton brig, probably constructed by shipbuilder Alden Briggs, at Pembroke, Massachusetts , sometime between 1788 and 1805. During her service life, the ship was home ported in Boston, Massachusetts .Shipwreck On 12 December 1811, Polly departed Boston with a cargo of lumber and provisions. The ship was commanded by Captain Casneau, and carried eight others: the mate, four seamen, an Indian cook, a passenger named Mr. Hunt, and an African-American slave or servant girl belonging to Hunt. Three days out, on 15 December, the Polly was caught in a severe gale . The storm capsized the ship and the masts were either carried away by the storm, or cut away by the crew. Relieved of the topweight, Polly rolled back onto an even keel. The ship was completely filled with water, but the cargo of lumber kept the ship afloat. However, two people were lost during the storm. The survivors began to salvage the wreck for usable items. Quantities of salted pork were recovered, and the survivors ate that raw until the cook managed to start a fire twelve days after the wreck, by using two sticks rubbed together. . The supplies of salted pork ran out after forty days, and the survivors were forced to eating barnacles |

1968: The Year that Saved Ohio State Football $25.95 1968 begins in the mens’ room of an exclusive Columbus restaurant and ends two years later in The Rose Bowl, an unwitting but flawless metaphor for Ohio State University’s rise to the pinnacle of college football. Between these two events occurs one of the great adventure stories in the history of the sport. Against a backdrop of national turmoil and international crises, Coach Wayne Woodrow Hayes uncharacteristically brings into his lagging program new young coaches and an impressive bunch of extraordinary kids, including the first significant number of African-Americans. There is an irreverent military school lineman who begins the school’s lifting program by bringing his own weights, a Brooklyn fullback who can’t believe Ohio’s open spaces, a running back with New Jersey street-gang cred, and a homegrown quarterback with a bad back and an unassailable talent. All of them labor under the shadow of Hayes, the promethean figure who would leave an indelible legacy as one of the century’s great coaches–sly, mercurial, pugnacious, maddeningly contradictory, a larger-than-life figure who carries the football ambitions of an entire state on his beefy shoulders. 1968 is a rich tapestry of scenes and stories throughout an incandescent season, including some of the best football dialogue ever written. In scene after scene, the raw intensity of an unforgettable season pulls the reader along to its breathless climax in Pasadena when the Super Sophs take on one of college’s greatest running backs. It’s a story that has everything–great drama, achievement, colorful characters, and the complex unfolding of Woody Hayes’s multifaceted personality. Near the end of a chaotic decade, the Buckeyesprovide a badly needed feel-good lift to an entire state. And just as Woody predicted, they found themselves a large, inextricably bound family, tied forever by the commonalities of blood–literally theirs–sweat, tears, laughter, and, of course, their near-miraculous season. |

8: All True – Unbelievable $17 In this gorgeously elliptical memoir, the acclaimed author of The Pharmacist’s Mate examines motherhood, childhood, and the unexpected effects of past events on present actions. The mania of early motherhood, the intimacy of marriage, and the quest for healing are raw materials from which critically acclaimed writer Amy Fusselman has wrought her latest work-a daring exploration of the perversities of time. The same idiosyncratic and inimitable form Fusselman created in the astonishingly original The Pharmacist’s Mate-short, staccato paragraphs, some reading like journal entries-lends intimacy to her reflections and observations. From her experiences with the man she calls “my pedophile” to the more domestic trials of sleep training her infant son or her obsession with a Beastie Boys song, Fusselman moves from one subject to the next with the freeform exuberance of a child at play. Sometimes the topic is abstract and grand, such as her contemplation of what Time is; other times, she focuses on the seemingly trivial and mundane aspects of life. The idea of learning through repetition and the automatic motions of humans are metaphorically represented by the countless figure eights she performed as a child on the ice. Family is ever present in 8 and Fusselman writes with inclusive tenderness, extending this intimacy to the reader as well. Her efforts to come to terms with the ideas of innocence, aging, and the healing power of touch draw the reader in still deeper-the uplifting revelations staying with you long after the last page is turned. |
